A woman indicted with harassing Kate McCann allegedly left her a voicemail message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, 24, who a jury heard has persistently asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, the court heard call records and evidence retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most widely reported missing child cases and continues to be open.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

One phone message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm fat and not pretty like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I believe."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I'm her? Then what? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"

"I don't want money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," she added.

The tribunal was informed that via emails, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a effort to display a likeness to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, an investigator with the police force who compiled the data, advised the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted close associates of the McCanns, as per the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, the father picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I won't give up and I plan to establish my point."

The court learned the co-defendant developed a connection online with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' home in the county in December 2024.

Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted using messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the period before the appearance to the village, that area, in that winter.

The court learned message exchanges between the two accused, in that autumn, considering trying to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her bins or from cutlery at a restaurant.
