Nigel Farage Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by instructing students that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a walkout by educators very quickly after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They create division, not uniting us. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and now, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, his comments indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with education – absolutely herculean. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned through education, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and millions of days of lost learning for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I mean this. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of young people to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I will follow through.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. According to its online description: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
