McKenna's Stance on Celtic

The Ipswich boss referred to Celtic as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Ipswich in 2021 and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last campaign as they were relegated back to the second division and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"I have not had such discussions," the English capital native ex- Irish youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any part of my concentration is this week.

"I possess a special job here at a special team. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Anything external hasn't reached my awareness."

Context and Agreement Aspects

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and declare what they were, but naturally it's a really big football club."

McKenna agreed to a new multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his alleged £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!

"I tackle this role like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always give maximum effort as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the former Wales striker is minded to complete the ongoing World Cup qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and their rivals in next month would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually assured of reaching that stage, thanks to a productive European competition performance, should they not end up their group second place.

Given his present stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement concludes after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the minimum.
