Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
